At Ecosafe Group, social value is an obligation of ours and we thoroughly enjoy seeing the benefit it brings in the local communities in which we serve.

Creating social value through community investment

Our recent kitchen refurbishment in Poole, in partnership with BCP Council, is a perfect example of how construction can go beyond building work to support real community needs.

Located at Millfield, Poole, this communal kitchen is the hub for the residents. The refurbishment was more than upgrading the space. It created a functional, welcoming environment that brought people together.

Why the kitchen refurbishment was necessary

Lee, a Building Surveyor at BCP Council, saw first-hand how much the Millfield communal kitchen meant to residents. However, the outdated layout and limited facilities made it difficult for them to cater for larger gatherings.

“The kitchen wasn’t suitable for cooking for that many people, so we wanted to make it right for them. It’s a real community space, and we knew it needed to work for what they do.” – Lee, BCP Council.

Main concerns included:

  • Limited space for preparing and cooking meals.

  • Outdated appliances that did not support large-scale cooking.

  • A layout that was not practical for regular community events.

How Ecosafe Group transformed the space

To address these issues, Ecosafe Group worked closely with BCP Council to deliver a complete kitchen refurbishment that would provide lasting social value for the residents of Millfield.

Upgrades included:

  • A full strip-out and redesign to maximise space.

  • A flush-fit layout to create a more practical cooking environment.

  • A brand-new range cooker, donated by Ecosafe Group, to help residents cater for large gatherings.

This refurbishment ensures that the Millfield community can continue hosting events, sharing meals, and making memories.

‘Absolutely amazing transformation. Before it was so narrow, but now we’ve got wide open spaces - we can even dance in here!” – Mel, Millfield Resident.
“It's gonna save a lot of bother, a lot of running around, and everything's going to be in one place, and we've got a worktop that we've never had before. It's going to be incredible.” – Bev, Millfield Resident.

Celebrating with a Christmas coffee morning

To mark the completion of the kitchen refurbishment in Poole, we hosted a Christmas Coffee Morning - a chance for residents to come together, enjoy festive treats, and celebrate their new space.

Ecosafe Group provided the residents with a Christmas raffle, the chance to win prizes, adding to the festive fun! The morning was a warm and welcoming event to showcase the kitchen’s transformation. It was a privilege to hear first-hand how the refurbishment will benefit their daily lives.

“It means we can spend more time in the room, with the people - where we should be.” – Bev, Millfield Resident.

A Smooth, Collaborative Project

The success of this social value project was down to the seamless collaboration between Ecosafe Group and the BCP Council. From planning to completion, every stage of the refurbishment was efficient, ensuring minimal disruption for residents.

“The planning from beginning to end was superb. The way BCP and Ecosafe liaised with one another made all this possible. The speed at which it’s happened has been incredible!” – Mel, Millfield Resident.

And, of course, the highlight for many was the new range cooker, a gift from Ecosafe Group to support future community events.

“The icing on the cake was the cooker donated by Ecosafe, absolutely brilliant!” – Mel, Millfield Resident.

The long-term impact of social value projects

At Ecosafe Group, we believe that social value projects should have a lasting impact. This kitchen refurbishment in Poole is a fantastic example of how thoughtful design and community-focused improvements can make a real difference.

“We won’t see it, but in 10 years, there’ll still be functions and people using that kitchen. It’s not just about doing the work and leaving - it’s about having a lasting impact.” – Lee, BCP Council.

This kitchen renovation has improved daily life for the Millfield residents, ensuring they have a space that meets their needs both now and in the future.

Working alongside the BCP Council has allowed us to help create a space that will continue benefiting the community for years.
